Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable news stories throughout time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and The Iran Contra affair. She traveled frequently along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
